The restaurant and most of the staff we encountered, were for the main part, of a reasonable standard. This hotel is not the worst of its type we have stayed in - but it is far from the best. It is, however, very conveniently situated. The hotel and restaurant were clean and most of the staff were polite and helpful. The self service breakfast were very good indeed with quite literally everything you could possibly want. The staff on hotel reception were all very polite and efficient. The swimming pool and hot tub were in very good order. The bedroom was clean but very small. The furniture was chipped and shabby and one of the cupboard doors would not open. The lighting was inadaquate. The bathroom, also clean, was miniscule - the towel rail was situated above and behind the wc. and the tiles and grouting were stained brown. At dinner, in the restaurant, on our second night we ordered sirloin steak. When it arrived it was extremely tough and full of gristle. A waitress asked my wife how was her steak and when told it was inedible, chuckled and replied " yes you really need a good set of teeth" as she walked away!!!! When the waitress returned to clear our plates, my wife asked her to inform the chef that the steak was inedible and doubted that it was sirloin - she duly returned to tell us that the chef agreed!!! We were not charged the 18 cost of that steak but felt the situation was poorly handled! Finally the young woman receptionist on duty in the sports club reception on Saturday afternoon had a very sarcastic manner. |

Posted by Chris (2008-04-12) Reception person was surly and unhelpful when I was trying to locate a colleague staying in the hotel - wouldn't give me his room no. and didn't offer to contact him for me - eventually used my mobile.Restaurant food was poor - meat tough, all food, including breakfast was only luke warm.On a freezing night, there was a fire alarm at 4.00 am which caused total evacuation to car park for nearly an hour - badly organised, roll-call abandoned part-way through, no hot drinks made available. Eventually admitted that the alarm system was faulty and could not be switched back on even though we were allowed back in.Next morning reception staff still expected me to pay full price (100) for room when I complained. They didn't know how to handle my complaint and are obviously poorly trained in customer relations. Eventually they knocked off my dinner charge (20) and gave me 1000 Priority Club points - Big deal ! There was no hint of an apology for having a badly disturbed night because of their faulty system. If I had been paying myself and had more time, I would have insisted on at least a 50% reduction. All in all a bad experience - my second in 2 stays at Holiday Inns - I shall definitely avoid them in future. Not a lot Reception staff, Food. |
