Shockingly basic hotel
Liked: Despite the stunning reception area and fancy entrance, the actual rooms are disappointingly basic.
Disliked: Very basic, dated, and badly maintained bedrooms. Taps broken, toilet flush system broken, curtains let in light because they?re not hanging properly, floors are uneven, floorboards are creaking, and generally badly maintained rooms. We also found random hairs on the bed and in the basin. The locks have been replaced, but the door frames are extremely poor. All in all, it was a disappointing stay for us. The lift only takes two people at a time and you have to wait ages for it to return or take the stairs all the way up to the 4th floor with luggage. No car parking available even though they advertise it as having parking.

Too hot to bear, spoilt...
Liked: Great location for lovely walk along seafront and near Euro tunnel.
Disliked: Room was unbearably hot even with radiator off, both sash windows open and fan on all night. Couldn?t sleep very well and dry heat caused a headache. Also tiny lift and very narrow corridor and awkward access to some rooms Limited on road parking.

Perfect location for long walks...
Liked: Rooms were immaculately clean and both refreshments and toiletries were replenished daily. Plenty of space. Lift is small but a blessing. Food in bar was beautifully presented and delicious.
Disliked: The price of wine!

Lovely Hotel in a lovely...
Liked: We stayed as a fairly large (13 people) group of friends , we were all very pleased with The Clifton . It is in a lovely location on The Leas but within easy walking distance to the town and Harbour . The staff were all very good and both welcoming and professional , we ate breakfast on both mornings of our stay , this was an excellent and varied buffet with a good choice of hot and cold dishes . All agreed their rooms were very clean and comfortable and enjoyed their stay . We did not eat there in the evenings but went into town where there is a good and varied choice (there are restaurants within a 5 minute walking distance if you do not want to go far). We found the town of Folkestone a pleasant surprise as visitors , well maintained public gardens and a lot of interesting things to see , the Harbour Arm that is being re-furbished , the ongoing contemporary art exhibition and Road of Rememberance to name a few. Transport in the area is excellent ,a fast rail service from London and frequent buses to local towns , Dover, Canterbury , Hythe , etc. Good choice of town and good choice of hotel . Thank you The Clifton .
