80 West Street, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8AQ, GB
On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, this 17th century coaching inn has been refashioned into an award-winning townhouse hotel, brasserie and wine bar.
Browns Tavistock boasts well-equipped accommodation combining modern facilities with original features. The stylish Brasserie offers sophisticated cuisine made with locally sourced produce. Explore the chic surroundings and you'll be able to enjoy a glass from the hotel’s extensive wine cellar. In the winter you can relax on the comfortable sofas in front of a blazing real log fire and during the summer months you can relax in the courtyard and soak up the sun in the airy conservatory, where you will find a functioning freshwater well that is said to date back to Roman times.
Such features are further complemented by a modern gym facility, making Browns the 'Town Hotel of the Year, 2006' according to the prestigious 'Good Hotel Guide Cesar Awards'.

Hotel Information
Originally built by the 7th Duke of Bedford, Brown's most interesting feature is its ancient well that can now be found in its conservatory. Believed to have been constructed by the Romans, its fresh water still runs today and is bottled on the premises, available for you to try. Particularly renowned for its traditional Sunday lunches, the Brasserie features a varied menu of locally sourced meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, chosen and prepared by a professional chef. Lunch is available for around 15 GBP, with dinner costing approximately 35 GBP. Meals are also on offer in the bar area.
Area Information
Dartmoor National Park (2 miles / 3.2 km) - capped with many exposed granite hilltops, and a haven for the diverse Dartmoor wildlife, this vast area of moorland spans 953 km² (368 square miles). Here you can dress up in Victorian clothes, travel 1000 metres underground into a copper mine on a small train; learn the ropes on a sailing ship or enjoy simple games from the Victorian era.
