Good facilities and pet friendly
Liked: The large grounds were excellent for walking the dog. The pub attached was a nice option to have an evening meal where the dog was welcome.

Standards are slipping!
Liked: The location is perfect for our needs and the room was clean and quiet. The new tarmac service of the majority of the car park is a great improvement.
Disliked: The staff were, in general, unwelcoming and in urgent need of training regarding their competence to do their assigned tasks and customer service. Very few smiles or eye contact and all seemed uncaring. Perhaps a portion of the budget for the recent refurbishment should have been reserved for the recruitment of appropriate 'front of house' staff. Having stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions in the past, we felt disappointed this time. The breakfast, regarding fruit and pastries was barely adequate.

Disappointing room and new outside...
Liked: Easy free car parking. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Windows that opened.
Disliked: Tired old bathroom. New decking terrace next to the river - apparently its going to be a shisha lounge??? Seriously? Such a poor concept in todays world. The terrace looks over the river and could be a prime spot for dining/drinking/socialising for everyone, it could be such a wonderful area, but its going to be a shisha lounge?? Flip! The mind boggles. We sat with evening drinks there. The view of the river was through a metal mesh with chestnut timber fencing, but maybe this is temporary, it was dreadful, but we just wanted to sit outside on a lovely summer evening. Whilst sat on this terrace an elderly lady fell down a step on the decking, there was no indication in the half light that it was a step, it ended with her requiring an ambulance to hospital! We asked that the step be marked, we stayed 3 nights, nothing happened.
