Exceptional

Liked: Fantastic location and a superb conversion, retaining many of the original features of the prison. The staff were helpful and pleasant in every area of the hotel which added to the overall perfect short break.

Liked: We got a free upgrade which was great! The location was excellent and the check in / out was easy!
Disliked: The hotel room upgrade was lovely and we were super grateful however there wasn?t any air conditioning in the room. There were also no windows we could open to get fresh air. It was one of the hottest nights of the year and due to the room being so hot and stuffy we didn?t sleep a wink which was unfortunate as the suite was lovely. We were exhausted so drove home and took a nap! Breakfast was also a slight let down. It was busy but was a little chaotic, the breakfast Buffett was non existent. There was hardly anything left, minimal fruit, juice and no glasses or milk for the coffee. We ordered breakfast at the table, which took around 40 mins to get to us, by which time 3 couples who came after us had already eaten and left. The breakfast was also not worth the wait, the muffins were undercooked and so were the eggs so we left most of it and checked out. We also asked for more coffee as we?d drank it way before the breakfast arrived but we didn?t receive it and we?re happy to just get out of there after the long wait and disappointing food!

Lovely hotel, but 300 a...

Liked: The concept is great. The location is wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were polite and helpful.
Disliked: The shared areas are looking tired. Spare seating was stacked in shared areas. The door frame in our bathroom was suffering from wet-rot. The shower attachment hose casing needed replacing. The restaurant has a lot going for it, but it's underselling itself and could do more. Our food was good and the bill was reasonable, but not good enough to make it an alternative to eating out. There's room for improvement in more than one department.

Good

Disliked: Oxford is expensive. So be prepared. Compared to the other hotels we stayed in this stay, this was the most expensive with the least facilities, due to the centre of Oxford location.
