Great fun stay but very...

Liked: Rooms were very different in the cell block.
Disliked: For the price they could have included cooked breakfast. 600 a night and only a croissant!!!

Liked: Location was central.
Disliked: Disgustingly dirty especially the bathrooms. Hotel needs to close for a deep clean.

Liked: Location was good
Disliked: Room temperature- i understand this is a historic building, but the room temperature was over 25 degrees with no way of cooling it down. The fans provided do nothing when there are no windows to open. This made our stay extremely disappointing and I couldn?t recommend the hotel to anyoneStaff - for a 4 star hotel they were disheveled and confused. At first we were told there was air conditioning in the room and it was even ?turned on? by a staff member, until eventually another staff member admitted there was no air con.

Tired, overpriced and poor service

Liked: It?s quirky
Disliked: We booked for our two mothers for two days, plus ourselves for our wedding night. My wife ate there the night before we were married and they gave her food poisoning. She passed out at the hairdressers on the morning of the wedding and was so sick it was touch and go whether she would make it to the ceremony. She was ill the whole day. The air conditioning didn?t work in either of our mothers rooms, it was really hot and the windows didn?t open - so the hotel gave them fans - at 320 per night room only no breakfast. And the TV didn?t work and they repeatedly got food orders wrong or forgot to bring them, etc., etc. Then they double charged us. This finally tipped me over the edge so I made a complaint and they never called me back... DON?T STAY THERE!!!!!

Overpriced for the room- I?ve...

Liked: We chose this hotel for its proximity to our daughters apartment, so location was the only positive
Disliked: For the cost per night of a room, the bathroom was way under the expected standard. Mildew & missing caulking, shower door sticks & hard to close, poor edging allowed water to seep through onto the floor. We chose this hotel for its proximity to our daughters apartment, but would never stay there again as the price is greatly inflated for the value of the room we were given.

Sleepless night due to loud...

Liked: Location was perfect for us as we took the train from Paddington London to Oxford, and the hotel is within walking distance from the Oxford train station.
Disliked: My son and I were given a room on the fourth floor but effectively was directly above Slug and Lettuce. It was Saturday night, and the music from the restaurant was pounding until well after midnight. We were kept awake not only by the noise but also the vibrations. I called Reception twice to complain but there was nothing they could do as Slug and Lettuce was not run by the hotel. The hotel was full so could not change to another room. Outside our room by the door, I noticed an ice bucket on the floor containing the remains of empty bottles and glasses, presumably left over from the previous guests. This remained untouched at the door when we checked out the next day. No toiletries were provided. A note was found by the wash basin, "We want to reduce waste. Please ask for toiletries from the Reception if necessary." Well, I would have appreciated to be notified at the time of check-in instead of discovering for myself that no shower cap nor cotton buds etc were available when I was about to take a bath and go to bed after a long day. Breakfast was included in the room charges (GBP 339 for two persons, one night) but the buffet was effectively a miserly display of Kellogg's corn flakes, Wheetabix etc and a bit of cheese and cold cuts. Hardly generous at all. The manager informed me that a cooked breakfast was available by paying GBP 2 extra. My son ordered a full cooked breakfast. Then at check-out, the lady asked me to pay an extra GBP 10 for the cooked breakfast. When I explained to her that GBP2 was what the manager said, she quickly corrected herself. Then she asked me to just settle the fee for car parking when I did not even have a car! I asked if she got the wrong guest and she again quickly admitted it was her mistake.
