Nice place but could do...

Liked: Great staff and lovely breakfast... Bed was huge
Disliked: Room smelt and was a bit dated

Poor - 1.9 out of 5

Extremely disappointing given the rating...

Liked: The bed was comfortable however everything else fell well below expectation to the point that we would not recommend it to anyone.
Disliked: Entire building needs renovating the interior is beyond tired and shabby, the restaurant was haphazard in its layout for the buffet and the breakfast was a poor quality buffet with the majority of cooked food that was offered being cold. Which at 15.95 per person was suprising. We had to ask for the gowns which should have been provided for the superior room and there were insufficient towels for a room with 2 guests. Coffee machine provided in the room was broken but to be fair there was also a kettle so we were able to make a hot drink.

Hotel provided a comfy night's...

Liked: The staff were very hard working and friendly and understanding on the whole. Breakfast was plentiful. The bed was comfy.
Disliked: There was a wedding reception which was very noisy and which we were unaware of beforehand. There was no quiet place to sit and we had to listen to the loud wedding music all through our dinner. The dining room was rather chilly. In the morning there were not enough places to sit for breakfast and we were offered a bare overflow room with formica topped tables and no atmosphere to eat in by a stressed waitress - not exactly in keeping with the hotel's image. We only had one towel between us in the bathroom and the room was cold on arrival. The room decor was 'tired'.

perfect location and relaxing night!

Liked: Ths room we had was amazing and the bed was the most comfiest bed i've ever slept on and I do a lot of travelling. The receptionist was warm and friendly - definately go back here!
Disliked: there were no lights on in the car park and it was difficult to judge the underfoot int he dark - iphone needed for torch!

Liked: First ?stay? at this hotel, although I have been to functions there before. The character of the premises is beautiful, however, I feel a group, the size of the Mercure could do a little bit more to enhance the property.Gardens are a lovely setting for photos etc, especially for special events, but, they do need better tending to & attention.Really think the property is in need of another bar/area to be served. We attended at the same time a Wedding Reception was in attendance, the bar & available staff were too small to cope with the numbers & areas to occupy were in short supply to comfortably enjoy our drinks & time with friends.Add to this, as paying customers who had obviously booked into the premises before the Wedding Party, we were displeased with the attitude of a member of staff who asked what we were doing on the lawns having photos taken in our Wedding attire, having returned from Mauritius a few days prior & were staying there prior our Reception elsewhere!(Apparently the other ?bride & groom? didn?t like it!!!As exclusivity wasn?t ?pre arranged? I had an argument with a jumped up member of the Wedding party stating this to him... from which he stormed off, not to be seen again!)The staff immediately apologised to us & offered us drinks. But, I feel the Hotel staff upon this request should?ve checked with Reception regarding our legality of being there, before acting upon an ill informed group?s instruction! Finally, the rooms we occupied were very well maintained & proportioned, with excellent amenities & tea/coffee facilities (just missing a mini biscuit or two) for the 90 accommodation.
Disliked: Needs a little bit of money spending on it & maybe the addition of a contemporary bar/lounge for overspill or different vibe/feeling within this beautiful property
