Liked: Good value for money.less than 10 mins walk from station. Staff friendly and helpful. Single Room small but very clean and all I needed. Lovely bath. Continental breakfast was excellent.
Disliked: Could not have improved anything. No lift but woman on reception carried my case to room. Quirky hotel

Very pleasant staff, well welcomed...

Liked: This Oldest hotel in the town is in the centre of all modern attractions and historic places. It was a favourite hotel where Dickens used to stay in Reading and it has this history alive...

Very convenient location, but too...

Liked: The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is superb (which is basically what you pay for at these rates) - at the beginning of Broad St, so you have everything at "your door". The cafe next to the hotel is really convenient and has splendid coffee. If you ask for a quiet room, you can get one that's not facing Broad St which is a bonus.
Disliked: The hotel is a bit of a maze and there's probably never gonna be an elevator, which makes carrying heavy suitcases up and down a huge ordeal. The taps in the bathrooms are still not mixer taps, but old (Victorian era) double taps, so you need to plug the sink if you want to mix the two. The water pressure is a bit flimsy as well. A little bit of an update (refresh/refurbish) wouldn't hurt.

Good

Liked: Value wise it was excellent. We asked for a quiet room with a bath and that is what we got. The bed was very comfortable. Only 5 minutes walk to the railway station and connecting coaches to Heathrow.
Disliked: The only criticism I would have is that the bar and restaurant area really needs smartening up. No lift but we did have help with our suitcases.
