Great location a little run...

Liked: The location was perfect and the bar area was lovely and cosy. Lovely old building which was charming. We didn?t spend any time there but the gardens looked nice. The restaurant seemed busy to. Although we didn?t have time to eat there, I suspect the food was good.
Disliked: It is a little run down but still charming. There was a fair bit of road noise from our room which didn?t overly bother us, the windows are quite old so not very sound proof. Totally part of the charm but if road noise bothers you don?t stay at the front of the hotel. We struggled to park when returning late. There was a lady who appeared to be doing everything, the bar, checking people in so we had to wait a bit when we got there. Our room wasn?t ready but we were slightly early. Very accommodating though and offered for us to leave our bags. We had to check out early and again no one really around but that was no problem really we were able to leave our key. I think it was a lot of money for what it was but I would return as the location was good. A hair dryer in the room would be handy.

Great place to stay -...

Liked: Friendly welcome from the staff who were extremely accommodating. The hotel is just a few minutes from the A14 but feels extremely rural. There is a restaurant within the hotel but there are also plenty of pubs within an easy walk. Ideal base for visiting Newmarket which is an easy 10 minute drive away.

Won?t be back.

Liked: Nice garden.
Disliked: Terrible smell in bathroom. Occupants of room next door came home at 9 pm and only then did I realize there was only a thin wall between rooms. I could hear every word of every conversation. Their mobile phone woke me up. People smoking by doorway meant my whole room then smelled of cigarette smoke. I had to ask to be moved. Second room was much quieter but still a smell in bathroom. Breakfast was subpar and poor value for 10

It was a good and...

Liked: Our friends' bedroom we saw was really lovely with a four poster and lovely furnishings. I would imagine it is a gradual process to do every room to an equally exciting standard but our room was very comfortable. The approach and garden at the hotel is really lovely and the dining area very nice.
Disliked: This is a reasonably priced and pleasing hotel but I think it is always good to keep being inspired. There is a subtlety in relation to guests that would make dining even nicer. On a practical side, I think a little bin for detritus on breakfast cereal area would be useful and we didn't like the tea making idea as there wasn't enough room and think pots of tea from the kitchen would have been better.

Not what I expected

Liked: Food was good, location was good and staff very pleasant
Disliked: Curtains in room were so thin that they didn't block out the light so was awake very early as room was so bright.Pillows were so thin needed all of them to be comfortable one case even had two pillows inside. Mattress was not the most comfortable and judging by all the stains on it was pretty old quite gross really.
