I would choose it again...

Liked: Its location, spaciousness, and grandeur, especially the fabulous chandeliers and what looked like the original decor and fittings in the communal areas. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Disliked: Nothing.

A beautiful hotel, but the...

Liked: Although parking 'at the door' is first come, first served - I landed the one of the lucky spots, and was given helpful guidance by staff pre check-in as to where I could park. The hotel is in the perfect location and it is a beautiful old building with a fabulous, chandelier showcased staircase. The mini bar stocked with some inclusive water and snacks was a bonus.
Disliked: My room was extremely disappointing and not at all as the pictures - though of course they are careful to say that pics are for 'illustrative purposes only'. The website pics show a spacious (King) room that a good metre or more between the bed and walls or window; space for two club chairs and a small occasional table; plus a desk and additional chair. The bathroom looks enormous, with a sash window and lots of space between the bath and the toilet. The reality was my one chair sat flush against a wall, a window, and my bed; whilst my toilet was right-up against the door to my small shower cubicle and the bathroom had no window. My King bed was made-up of two mattresses, one a half inch taller than the other. Not at all as portrayed and poor value for money.

Liked: Fab location and staff very clean.
Disliked: The cost of parking is the only reason I wouldn?t return as had to park in the railway car park overnight and cost a fortune on top of the hotel stay!

Excellent but with a few...

Liked: Historically fascinating, the Royal Station Hotel is in an excellent location and affords a good level of comfort. The breakfast and evening meals were very nice and the team most pleasant and helpful. No major issues, rather a few minor niggles.
Disliked: There were a few minor irritations, some of which are probably down to the age of the property and others which could be avoided. The WiFi was strong but the registration process was long winded and it seemed to take a long time to connect in the first place. The parking is limited, although the large station cark park is a stone's throw away - 40 for a two-day stay was on the steep side, so it might be worth researching cheaper alternatives. The water pressure was okay but the shower not quite hot enough, even a 'max'. The most frustrating thing of all was the room key cards - on arrival it didn't work (I was on the top floor with baggage aplenty) and on two other occasions, I had to get them replaced by the reception team (three times in all). This is the sort of irritation that can tarnish things, so really something ought to be done about their lack of reliability. All on all, I was very happy though!
