Fabulous

Liked: Although The Poplars was a longish walk (or a quick taxi ride) UP from the railway station, it was then but a short way up from there to the castle and cathedral; and blissfully quiet. The hosts and day staff were welcoming and most helpful. The room was the same I'd stayed in before--comfy and welcoming, with teas and coffee, thick towels and good bathroom toiletries. The window opened--a plus for me. The continental breakfast, served in a cheerful room, was excellent. A ten-minute stroll down and to the east is the city centre, with shops, eateries and a Tesco Metro.
Disliked: My pet peeve these days, as everywhere I stay, is that the bedding is one thick doona...or nothing. What ever happened to sheets and two blankets, so as to have degrees of warmth as needed?
