We saw the musical 'Beautiful' based on the early career of singer/songwriter Carole King and enjoyed it immensely. The theatre was easy to find and within walking distance of our hotel and the restaurant we ate in pre-performance. The theatre has a cosy and friendly atmosphere, and the seats we had reserved were first class, though my view of the stage was somewhat hampered due to the fidgeting, stretching and head rolling of the chap in the seat in front of mine! However, this did not detract from what was a hugely enjoyable evening/birthday treat for my husband and me.
Liked: Friendly, efficient staff. Good atmosphere. Comfortable seats.
Disliked: More leg room would have been nice, but nothing in the visit could be described as 'bad'.

Aldwych Theatre is a beautiful venue, but small (probably the smallest theatre I have been to in the West End). Went to see Dirty Dancing, which I was so excited about as I'm a huge fan of the film (have watched it like a million times), however If I'm being totally honest, I would have to say i was a little disappointed. Maybe this was my own fault as I did find myself constantly comparing it to the film. I thought the acting was terrible at times, probably due to the cast trying to put on American accents. I was expecting to hear more of the songs, for example Hungry Eyes (my favourite) was not really featured. I know in the movie you sometimes only hear snippets of the songs but I thought as this was a west End musical it would be adapted to feature much more of the music. On a good note the dancing was spot on and the final scene was just amazing - really well done!! Would I go and watch Dirty Dancing again...probably not! The quality when compared to shows like the Phantom of the Opera was sadly just not there! One other thing If you are planning on going to Aldwych Theatre there is a really fab looking restaurant nearby called Sarastro (the show after the show), looked brilliant, sadly we didn't have time to go in, but would really like to try and go some other time!
Liked: Nice venue, amazing dancing.
Disliked: Poor acting at times.
